Project Manager (m/f/d)

on a full-time basis and based in our Berlin office. In this role, you will be a central member of the team providing core services at MERICS and report to the Director Policy and Advisory. 

Since its foundation in 2013, MERICS has established itself as the leading European think tank on China. Employing more than 40 full-time staff from all over Europe, MERICS is currently the largest European institute focusing solely on the analysis of contemporary China. With its headquarters in Berlin and offices in Brussels, the institute is regularly at the forefront of European and international public debates on China.  

In addition to its public-facing work, MERICS has established a successful portfolio of advisory services for public and private sector clients, to which you would contribute. The services MERICS provides range from the delivery of bespoke analyses, through convening and networking activities, to executive education offerings. MERICS also caters to the needs of a growing number of high-profile public and private sector members of MERICS who benefit from our work on a regular basis.

Your responsibilities

  • You will assist in the production and delivery of public sector tenders as well as proposals, pitches, and ideas for bespoke services to private sector partners. 
  • You will help with managing complex research projects and reporting to funders.
  • You will act as a critical point of contact and support for MERICS research teams throughout the lifecycle of externally funded activities, from developing initial ideas, through managing a project, to reporting at the end of a project.  
  • You will update sales and project management tools and ensure that relevant data sets are always up to date and integrated to the fullest possible extent. 

Your profile

  • You have successfully completed your studies in business administration, economics, political science, or another relevant field of study or bring other relevant experience to the job.
  • You have initial professional experience in one or several of the following areas: pursuit and offer management, business development, and project management. 
  • You have very good command of written and spoken German and English. Other European languages are a plus. Chinese language skills are not required for this position.  
  • You have excellent verbal and written communication skills and an ability to find the right tone in different interactions. You have a strong service-orientation and an eye for details.  
  • You are well acquainted with Office 365 applications and open to engaging with other digital tools as well, such as MS Dynamics.
  • You are passionate about the topics we cover and might even have relevant thematic and/or methodological experience yourself, which will help you assess whether a project is delivering value.
