
Matthew Hart’s research at MERICS focuses on China’s role in the emerging technologies of Artificial Intelligence, Public Surveillance and Smart Cities. He also supports MERICS Development and Partnerships operations.
Before joining MERICS he spent eight years in China, where he worked for the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office. His focuses there included, among others, business operations, physical and cyber security for the UK Government.
Matthew received a Bachelor's degree with honours in International Relations and Politics from the University of Sussex and is currently completing a Master's degree in European and East Asian Governance at the University of Trier.
