The sixth German-Chinese intergovernmental consultations are taking place in a difficult context this year. Five weeks ago, the EU imposed sanctions against China because of human rights violations in Xinjiang. The leadership in Beijing responded immediately with much tougher sanctions. The reaction of the German government has so far been restrained.
