From rags to riches: How the CCP came to power and expanded its influence

In a century, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has transformed itself from an underground rebel movement to one of the most influential and powerful regimes in the world. The timeline traces how the CCP has come to power and expanded its influence domestically, economically and in foreign relations. 

The years 2021 and 2049 are known as the two "centenaries"  (两个一百年). The first, 2021, is the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CCP when Xi Jinping declared the full eradication of extreme poverty and the establishment of a "moderately prosperous society"  (小康社会). The second, 2049, is the centenary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, when the goal is to become a fully developed high-income economy and a "modern socialist country".
