Olaf Schulz is a Senior Associate Fellow at MERICS. He focuses on digital sovereignty, resilience, and digital infrastructure as well as EU/China/US trade policy. Schulz has extensive experience analyzing geopolitical developments from a business perspective and has helped shape the debate on trustworthy technologies in Germany and Europe. Schulz received his doctorate in 1996 from the Department of Biology at the Free University of Berlin. At the Federal Office for Radiation Protection, he developed strong expertise in risk communication. Schulz worked in the European digital industry for over 20 years, with positions in Munich, Brussels, Beijing, and Berlin.
