Ru-Tung (Elizabeth) Sun is an analyst on the STIP team, working on a project on military-civil fusion in China. Her research focuses on dual-use technologies, national and cybersecurity, and China’s energy system.

Prior to joining MERICS, she was a non-resident fellow at the Taiwan-based Research Institute for Democracy Society and Emerging Technology (DSET). She also gained experience as an associate at the consultancy Sinolytics. Elizabeth holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from National Taiwan University and a dual master’s degree: one in international security from Sciences Po Paris and another in political science from Freie Universität Berlin.
