On 23-24 June, MERICS held the next session of the Track 1.5 Workshop on European China Policy in Warsaw in partnership with OSW Centre for Eastern Studies and the Polish Ministry for Foreign Affairs. The thirteenth edition of this event brought together senior officials from major EU countries and the EU Commission, and leading European China experts from the think tank community. This edition offered a venue for discussing and recalibrating European China policy at a time of major global disruptions and uncertainties. Topics of discussion included China's role in the Middle East crisis, China’s domestic trajectory, assessing the progress of “Made in China 2025”, and discussing Beijing’s views of the war in Ukraine as well as its relations with Moscow. Looking at the impact of the United States' China policy on Europe, and at China’s economic engagement with Europe allowed us to consider the implications of current trends for Europe's China policy.
