Mikko Huotari on Germany's relations with China

The sixth German-Chinese intergovernmental consultations are taking place in a difficult context this year. Five weeks ago, the EU imposed sanctions against China because of human rights violations in Xinjiang. The leadership in Beijing responded immediately with much tougher sanctions. The reaction of the German government has so far been restrained. In this podcast, Ariane Reimers, ARD correspondent and MERICS Senior Fellow, and MERICS Director Mikko Huotari talk about German-Chinese relations. Despite a deepening of German-Chinese economic relations, too little has happened on key cooperation issues, Huotari says.
