The Brussels Breakfast Briefing: National People’s Congress 2025: What’s Next for China’s Economic and Tech Policies? took place on March 13 from 8:30-9:30 AM. The one-hour event brought together a group of selected European officials, policymakers, and experts, as well as representatives of selected foreign missions and organizations, for a briefing from MERICS analysts followed by a confidential discussion.
China’s National People’s Congress (NPC) 2025 comes at a pivotal moment for the country’s economic and technological trajectory. The geopolitical uncertainty following Donald Trump’s return to the White House, coupled with China’s economic slowdown, adds to the significance of this year’s Congress. During this event, we reviewed the key signals from the recently held session of the NPC, analyzed their impact on China’s future direction, and explored what they mean for Europe.
